Redeem any available rewards before closing
Remove the card from any recurring payments or subscriptions
Call Capital One customer service using the number on the back of your card
Request to close the account
Confirm the account is closed and ask for a confirmation number or written confirmation
Cut up the card after the account is closed
Check your credit report later to make sure the account shows as closed
