Measure each stair tread and riser
Remove old carpet, staples, nails, and debris
Inspect and repair the stair surface
Install tack strips if needed
Cut carpet and padding to stair size
Attach padding to each tread
Start at the top stair
Secure carpet on the first riser and tread
Pull carpet tight and staple it underneath and along edges
Use a stair tool to tuck carpet into corners
Repeat for each stair, working downward
Trim excess carpet neatly
Secure the bottom edge
Check for loose spots and re-staple if needed
