Use a humane bird trap or net designed for the species and local laws
Place food or water as bait near the trap
Wait quietly at a safe distance
Close the trap or net only when the bird is fully inside
Cover the bird gently with a cloth to calm it
Hold the bird securely but carefully
Release the bird promptly in a safe area if it is not injured
Contact a wildlife rehabilitator if the bird is injured, trapped indoors, or a protected species
