Park the car on a flat surface and turn off the engine
Remove the key and engage the parking brake
Open the hood and locate the battery
Put on gloves and safety glasses
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Loosen and remove the negative battery cable
Secure the negative cable away from the battery
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Loosen and remove the positive battery cable
Remove any battery hold-down clamp or bracket
Lift the old battery out of the tray
Place the new battery into the tray in the same position
Reinstall the hold-down clamp or bracket
Connect the positive battery cable first
Tighten the positive terminal connection
Connect the negative battery cable second
Tighten the negative terminal connection
Check that both terminals are secure
Close the hood
Start the car to confirm the battery works
Dispose of the old battery at a recycling center or auto parts store
