Turn off power to the AC unit at the thermostat, disconnect, and breaker
Verify power is off with a multimeter
Remove the access panel
Take a photo of the existing capacitor wiring
Discharge the capacitor safely with an insulated resistor or have a professional do it
Note the capacitor’s microfarad rating, voltage rating, and terminal labels
Remove the wires from the old capacitor one at a time
Remove the mounting strap or bracket
Install the new capacitor with matching specifications
Secure the capacitor in the bracket or strap
Reconnect each wire to the correct terminal using the photo as reference
Check that all connections are tight
Reinstall the access panel
Restore power to the unit
Test the AC system for proper operation
