Use a bright light and a mirror

Part your hair into small sections

Check the scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck

Look for tiny oval eggs attached firmly to hair shafts

Slide the hair between your fingers to feel for small bumps

Use a fine-toothed lice comb on damp hair

Wipe the comb on a white tissue after each pass

Inspect the tissue and comb for nits or lice

Ask someone else to check hard-to-see areas if possible

Repeat the check every few days if you suspect an infestation
