Use a bright light and a mirror or ask someone to help
Wet your hair slightly or apply conditioner to make it easier to see
Part your hair into small sections from the scalp outward
Use a fine-toothed nit comb and comb from the scalp to the ends
After each pass, wipe the comb on a white paper towel or tissue
Look closely at the scalp near the hair roots for nits (eggs) that are firmly attached
Check behind the ears, the nape of the neck, and along the hairline
Inspect each section until you’ve checked the whole scalp
If you see specks, confirm they are firmly stuck to the hair (not easily slid off like dandruff)
Repeat combing and inspection every 2–3 days during treatment or until no new nits are found
