Open the Instagram app
Tap the Messenger or DM icon in the top right corner
View your message inbox
Tap any conversation to open and read the messages
Check message requests if you do not see a conversation
Use the search bar to find a specific person or chat
On desktop, go to Instagram.com and click the Messages icon
If needed, update the app to make sure DMs load properly
