Wash your hands thoroughly
Find a comfortable position, such as sitting, squatting, or placing one foot on a toilet seat
Insert one or two clean fingers into your vagina
Feel for your cervix, which is firm and round like the tip of your nose
Gently feel for the IUD strings coming through the cervix
Do not pull on the strings
Check that the strings feel the same length as before
If you cannot feel the strings, if they feel much longer or shorter, or if you feel the hard plastic of the IUD, contact a healthcare provider
If you have severe pain, heavy bleeding, fever, or suspect pregnancy, seek medical care promptly
