Locate the mass air flow sensor in the intake tube between the air filter and throttle body
Check the air filter for dirt or damage
Inspect the MAF sensor connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage
Turn the ignition off before unplugging the sensor
Remove the MAF sensor connector
Inspect the sensor element for dirt, oil, or debris
Reconnect the sensor and start the engine
Observe idle quality, stalling, hesitation, or rough running
Use an OBD-II scanner to check for MAF-related trouble codes
Read live data on the scanner and compare MAF airflow values at idle and under light throttle
Tap the sensor lightly and watch for changes in engine behavior
Test the sensor with a multimeter if specified by the vehicle service manual
Check the sensor power supply, ground, and signal voltage
Clean the sensor only with MAF sensor cleaner if contamination is present
Replace the sensor if readings are out of specification or symptoms remain after cleaning
