Empty the jug completely
Remove the cap and any spigot parts
Rinse the jug with warm water
Add a few drops of dish soap
Fill partway with warm water
Swirl the soapy water around inside
Use a long-handled bottle brush if needed
Scrub the neck and bottom thoroughly
Rinse several times with clean water
Mix a sanitizing solution of 1 tablespoon unscented bleach per 1 gallon of water
Fill the jug partway with the sanitizing solution
Swirl to coat all interior surfaces
Let it sit for 2 to 5 minutes
Empty the jug completely
Rinse thoroughly with clean water until no bleach smell remains
Air-dry upside down on a clean rack or towel
Clean the cap and spigot separately with soap and sanitizer
Reassemble only after everything is fully dry
