How To Clean A Cast Iron Skillet?

Cool the skillet completely

Rinse with hot water

Scrub with a stiff brush or non-scratch sponge

If food is stuck, sprinkle coarse salt and scrub

Avoid soap; if soap is used, rinse thoroughly

Dry immediately with a towel

Place on the stove over low heat for 1–2 minutes to fully evaporate moisture

Apply a thin layer of cooking oil (or flaxseed oil) to the entire surface

Wipe off excess oil

If needed, re-season by heating upside down in a 450°F / 232°C oven for 1 hour, then cool in the oven

Store in a dry place; keep lightly oiled if not used soon
