How To Clean A Coffee Maker?

Unplug the coffee maker and let it cool completely

Empty the carafe and remove any used coffee grounds from the filter basket

Fill the water reservoir with equal parts white vinegar and water (or use a manufacturer-approved descaling solution)

Place a clean empty carafe on the warming plate

Run a brew cycle until the reservoir is about half empty

Turn off or pause the machine and let it sit for 15–30 minutes

Resume the brew cycle until the reservoir is fully empty

Run 1–2 full brew cycles with clean fresh water to rinse out all vinegar

If the taste or smell of vinegar remains, continue rinsing with additional water cycles until clear

Wash the carafe, filter basket, and any removable parts with warm soapy water

Rinse thoroughly and dry completely

Wipe the exterior and warming plate with a damp cloth

Clean the showerhead/brewing area (if accessible) with a damp cloth or soft brush

If there’s a removable water filter, remove it according to the manufacturer’s directions and replace if required

Reassemble all parts and run one final short water-only brew cycle if recommended by the manufacturer

Repeat descaling every 1–3 months (more often if you have hard water)
