Remove excess paint by scraping the brush against the rim of the paint can or a disposable surface
Wipe the bristles with a rag or paper towel
Rinse the brush in the appropriate solvent for the paint type
Use warm water and mild soap for water-based paint
Use mineral spirits or paint thinner for oil-based paint
Work the solvent through the bristles with your fingers or a brush comb
Repeat rinsing and combing until no paint remains
Wash the brush with soap and water if needed
Rinse thoroughly
Shake out excess water or solvent
Reshape the bristles
Hang the brush or lay it flat to dry
