Unplug the kettle and let it cool completely
Empty any remaining water
Wash the inside with warm water and mild dish soap
Use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe the interior and exterior
Rinse thoroughly with clean water
Fill the kettle with equal parts water and white vinegar
Boil the mixture if the kettle is electric, or heat it if stovetop-safe
Turn off the kettle and let the mixture sit for 15 to 30 minutes
Pour out the solution
Scrub any remaining mineral buildup with a non-abrasive brush or sponge
Rinse several times with clean water
Boil plain water once and discard it to remove any vinegar smell
Wipe the outside dry with a clean cloth
Clean the spout and lid separately
Remove and wash any removable filter or mesh screen
Dry all parts completely before using or storing the kettle
