Gather a jar, candle, tea light, or LED light, wire or string, scissors, and decorative materials
Clean and dry the jar or container
Cut a handle from wire or attach string to the top
Place the light source inside the jar
Secure the lid or top if needed
Add decorations such as paper cutouts, paint, or ribbons
Leave openings for light to shine through
Test the lantern with the light turned on
Carry or hang the lantern safely
Turn off and remove the light when not in use
