Remove food debris with a spatula or wooden spoon
Fill the pan with hot water and a few drops of dish soap
Let soak 15–30 minutes
Scrub with a non-scratch sponge or soft brush
For stuck-on residue, sprinkle baking soda over the burnt area
Add enough water to make a paste over the burnt spots
Let sit 30–60 minutes
Scrub again with a non-scratch sponge
If residue remains, bring water with 1–2 tablespoons baking soda to a simmer for 5–10 minutes
Turn off heat, let cool slightly, then scrub
For heavy burning, boil water with 1–2 tablespoons baking soda for 10–15 minutes, then scrub
For stainless steel, use a stainless-steel cleaner or a paste of baking soda and a small amount of water
For cast iron, avoid soaking; scrub with hot water, then dry thoroughly and re-season
For nonstick pans, avoid abrasives; use baking soda paste and gentle scrubbing only
Rinse thoroughly with warm water
Dry completely to prevent rust (especially for cast iron)
If staining remains, repeat baking soda paste and gentle scrubbing once more
