Gather cat ear cleaner, cotton balls or gauze, and treats
Hold your cat gently and keep them calm
Lift the ear flap and look for dirt, redness, odor, or discharge
Apply a small amount of cat ear cleaner into the ear canal
Massage the base of the ear for a few seconds
Let your cat shake its head
Wipe away loosened debris from the outer ear with cotton balls or gauze
Clean only the visible parts of the ear
Do not use cotton swabs inside the ear canal
Repeat on the other ear if needed
Reward your cat with a treat
Stop and contact a veterinarian if the ear is painful, swollen, bleeding, or has heavy discharge
