Choose a tongue cleaner or a soft-bristled toothbrush
Wet your tongue and the cleaner/toothbrush
Start at the back of your tongue
Gently scrape or brush forward toward the tip
Rinse the cleaner/toothbrush after each pass
Repeat 3–5 times
Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth
Clean your tongue once daily, or up to twice daily if tolerated
If your tongue feels sore, reduce pressure or frequency
Replace a tongue cleaner or toothbrush when bristles wear out or after it becomes unhygienic
Drink water after cleaning if you feel dry mouth
Stop if you notice bleeding, severe irritation, or persistent pain
Practice good oral hygiene alongside tongue cleaning (floss, brush teeth twice daily)
