Use a bright light to help you see the nail structure
Hold the paw firmly but gently
Trim only a tiny bit at a time
Cut from the tip of the nail, not deep into it
Look for a small dark center or a chalky ring as you trim
Stop when you see a gray or black oval in the center of the cut surface
Avoid cutting past the point where the nail becomes softer or lighter
Use sharp dog nail clippers or a grinder
Keep styptic powder nearby in case of bleeding
Reward the dog after each nail or paw
Clip more frequently to keep nails shorter over time
If unsure, ask a veterinarian or groomer to show you how
