How to Get Rid of Skunk Smell on a Dog?

Keep the dog outside or in a well-ventilated area

Wear gloves and old clothes

Mix 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap

Apply the mixture to the dry coat immediately, avoiding eyes, nose, mouth, and ears

Work the mixture into the fur and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes

Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water

Repeat if needed, but do not store the mixture in a closed container

Wash the dog with a mild pet shampoo after the treatment

Use a skunk odor remover shampoo if available

Clean the dog’s collar, leash, bedding, and any contaminated items

Check the dog’s eyes, mouth, and skin for irritation

Contact a veterinarian if the dog was sprayed in the eyes or seems unwell

Keep the dog from rubbing on furniture or carpets until clean

Air out the house and wash any affected fabrics promptly
