Keep the dog outside or in a well-ventilated area
Wear gloves and old clothes
Mix 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
Apply the mixture to the dry coat immediately, avoiding eyes, nose, mouth, and ears
Work the mixture into the fur and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water
Repeat if needed, but do not store the mixture in a closed container
Wash the dog with a mild pet shampoo after the treatment
Use a skunk odor remover shampoo if available
Clean the dog’s collar, leash, bedding, and any contaminated items
Check the dog’s eyes, mouth, and skin for irritation
Contact a veterinarian if the dog was sprayed in the eyes or seems unwell
Keep the dog from rubbing on furniture or carpets until clean
Air out the house and wash any affected fabrics promptly
