Gather sharp poultry scissors and a helper if possible
Catch the chicken calmly and hold it securely
Extend one wing fully
Identify the primary flight feathers on the outer half of the wing
Clip only the first 5 to 10 primary feathers on one wing
Cut each feather below the level of the shorter cover feathers
Avoid cutting blood feathers
Do not clip both wings
Check the wing for bleeding after clipping
Return the chicken to a safe area and monitor its balance and movement
