Wash and deep condition the locs
Detangle the ends with your fingers
Apply a generous amount of conditioner or detangling product
Use a rat-tail comb or fine-tooth comb
Start at the very ends and comb upward a little at a time
Hold the hair above the section you are combing to reduce pulling
Separate each loc into smaller sections if needed
Work slowly and gently to avoid breakage
Reapply conditioner or detangler as the hair dries
Use a spray bottle with water to keep the hair damp
Remove shed hair as you comb
Repeat section by section until fully detangled
Trim severely matted or damaged ends if necessary
Rinse and cleanse the hair after combing out
Follow with a moisturizing conditioner and leave-in treatment
