Open Google Drive
Click New
Select File upload
Choose the Word document from your device
Wait for the upload to finish
Right-click the uploaded file
Select Open with
Choose Google Docs
Save the file as a Google Doc
To convert automatically on upload, open Google Drive settings
Turn on Convert uploads to Google Docs editor format
Upload the Word document again if needed
