Gather a VHS player, a video capture device, a computer, RCA or S-Video cables, and audio cables
Connect the VHS player output to the capture device input
Connect the capture device to the computer via USB or another supported connection
Install the capture device software or compatible video capture software
Insert the VHS tape into the player
Open the capture software and select the correct input source
Set the recording format and quality settings
Rewind the tape to the beginning
Start playback on the VHS player
Start recording in the capture software
Let the tape play through completely
Stop the recording when the tape ends
Save the captured file to the computer
Review the digital file for audio and video quality
Trim or edit the file if needed
Convert the file to a preferred format such as MP4 if necessary
Back up the final digital file to an external drive or cloud storage
