Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels

Pound to even thickness if needed

Season both sides with salt, pepper, and any desired spices

Heat a skillet over medium to medium-high heat

Add oil or butter to the pan

Place chicken breasts in the hot pan

Cook without moving for 5 to 7 minutes

Flip the chicken breasts

Cook for another 5 to 7 minutes

Reduce heat if the outside browns too quickly

Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F

Remove from the pan and rest for 5 minutes

Slice and serve
