Preheat the grill to medium-high heat
Clean and oil the grill grates
Pat the chicken dry
Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and desired spices or marinade
Place the chicken on the grill over direct heat
Close the lid and cook until grill marks form
Flip the chicken once halfway through cooking
Move thicker pieces to indirect heat if they brown too quickly
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F
Remove the chicken from the grill
Let the chicken rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving
