Pat the riblets dry and trim any excess fat
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and optional brown sugar
Optional: sear the riblets in a hot skillet for 2 to 3 minutes per side
Place sliced onions or a little broth in the bottom of the slow cooker
Arrange the riblets in the slow cooker
Pour barbecue sauce, broth, or a sauce mixture over the riblets
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours
Check that the riblets are tender and fully cooked
Optional: transfer riblets to a baking sheet and broil for 3 to 5 minutes for a caramelized finish
Serve with extra sauce if desired
