How To Cook Rice In A Pot?

Rinse 1 cup rice in a fine-mesh strainer until water runs mostly clear

Add rice to a pot with 2 cups water (for white rice)

Add 1/2 to 1 tsp salt (optional)

Bring to a boil over high heat

Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover with a tight-fitting lid

Simmer 15–18 minutes (white rice) or 40–45 minutes (brown rice)

Do not lift the lid during cooking

Turn off heat and let stand, covered, 5–10 minutes

Fluff with a fork and serve
