Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Place the rice in a large microwave-safe bowl
Add 2 cups of water
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Cover the bowl loosely with a microwave-safe lid or plate
Microwave on high for 10 minutes
Reduce power to medium and microwave for 10 to 15 more minutes
Check whether the water is absorbed and the rice is tender
If needed, microwave in 1-minute intervals until done
Let the rice stand covered for 5 minutes
Fluff with a fork before serving
