Preheat the oven to 425°F

Pat the tri-tip dry with paper towels

Season all sides with salt, pepper, and any desired spices

Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat

Add a little oil to the skillet

Sear the tri-tip for 2 to 3 minutes per side

Transfer the skillet to the oven

Roast until the internal temperature reaches 130°F to 135°F for medium-rare

Roast until the internal temperature reaches 140°F to 145°F for medium

Remove the tri-tip from the oven

Rest the meat for 10 to 15 minutes

Slice against the grain

Serve immediately
