Gather wood boards, wood glue, nails or screws, sandpaper, measuring tape, pencil, saw, clamp, and finish
Measure and mark the box dimensions on the wood
Cut the wood pieces for the base, sides, front, back, and lid if needed
Sand all cut edges and surfaces
Dry-fit the pieces to check alignment
Apply wood glue to the joining edges
Assemble the sides around the base
Secure the joints with nails, screws, or clamps
Wipe away excess glue
Let the box dry and set completely
Sand the assembled box again
Attach the lid, hinges, or handles if desired
Apply stain, paint, varnish, or sealant
Let the finish dry completely
