Soak feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes
Gently scrub thick, dry skin with a pumice stone or foot file
Pat feet completely dry, especially between the toes
Apply a thick moisturizer or heel balm with urea, lactic acid, or salicylic acid
Seal moisture in with petroleum jelly
Wear cotton socks overnight after moisturizing
Repeat moisturizing twice daily
Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces
Wear closed-back shoes or cushioned slippers
Use shoes with proper arch support and heel cushioning
Avoid long hot showers and harsh soaps
Drink enough water throughout the day
Do not cut or shave cracked skin
Treat athlete’s foot or eczema if present
See a doctor if cracks are deep, painful, bleeding, infected, or not improving
