Apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes at a time
Keep your head elevated

Remove contact lenses
Use artificial tears if the eyes are dry or irritated
Take an antihistamine if swelling is due to allergies
Rinse the eye area with clean water or saline if exposed to irritants
Reduce salt intake if swelling is from fluid retention
Get enough sleep
Treat any underlying infection or injury
Seek urgent medical care for severe pain, vision changes, fever, trauma, or swelling that worsens quickly
