Take the dog to a veterinarian immediately
Isolate the dog from other dogs
Follow the vet’s treatment plan exactly
Provide IV fluids or subcutaneous fluids as prescribed
Give anti-nausea medication as prescribed
Give antibiotics if prescribed to prevent secondary infection
Keep the dog warm and rested
Offer small amounts of water only if the vet says it is safe
Feed bland, easily digestible food only when vomiting stops and the vet approves
Monitor for dehydration, weakness, bloody diarrhea, and worsening symptoms
Clean and disinfect all contaminated areas with bleach solution or a vet-approved disinfectant
Wash hands and change clothes after handling the dog
Keep the dog away from unvaccinated puppies and other dogs until fully recovered and cleared by the vet
Keep vaccinations up to date for all dogs in the household
