Measure the desired length while wearing the petticoat and the dress or skirt it will be used with
Mark the new hemline evenly all around with tailor’s chalk or fabric marker
Add a small allowance if you want to finish the edge neatly
Lay the petticoat flat on a clean surface
Smooth out all wrinkles and align the layers evenly
Cut the excess fabric slowly and evenly along the marked line
Use sharp fabric scissors for a clean edge
Trim each layer separately if the petticoat has multiple layers
Keep the cut level so the hem stays balanced
Finish the raw edge with a sewing machine, serger, or hem tape if needed
Check the length again after cutting to make sure it is even all around
