Wash the coconut
Hold it over a bowl
Find the three soft eyes
Pierce one eye with a screwdriver, knife tip, or skewer
Drain the coconut water into the bowl
Wrap the coconut in a towel
Hold it steady on a hard surface
Tap around the middle with a hammer or heavy knife back
Rotate and keep tapping until it cracks
Separate the halves
Use a knife or coconut tool to pry out the flesh
Remove the brown skin if needed
Cut the flesh into smaller pieces
