Unplug the refrigerator
Remove all food, shelves, drawers, and ice trays
Place towels or shallow pans around the base to catch water
Leave the refrigerator and freezer doors open
Let the ice melt naturally
Use bowls of warm water inside the freezer to speed up melting
Replace the warm water as it cools
Gently remove loosened ice with a plastic or wooden spatula
Do not use sharp tools or knives
Wipe away meltwater as it collects
Clean and dry the interior thoroughly
Reinstall shelves and drawers
Plug the refrigerator back in
Wait for it to reach the proper temperature before restocking food
