How To Determine Average Velocity?

Average velocity = total displacement ÷ total time

Determine the initial position and final position

Calculate displacement = final position − initial position

Measure the total time taken

Divide displacement by total time

Include direction with the result

Use units such as m/s or km/h

For motion in one dimension, keep the sign of displacement

For motion in two or three dimensions, use vector displacement

If the object returns to its starting point, average velocity is zero
