How To Diagnose Mono?

Medical history and symptom review

Physical examination

Rapid heterophile antibody test

Complete blood count with differential

Epstein-Barr virus antibody testing

Liver function tests

Throat swab or strep test to rule out strep throat

Monospot test repeat if initial test is negative and suspicion remains high

Evaluation for other causes if EBV tests are negative

Imaging only if complications are suspected
