Use a local pharmacy take-back or drug disposal program if available
Use authorized medication drop boxes at pharmacies, hospitals, or police stations if available
Remove personal information from prescription labels before disposal
Mix unused medicine with an unappealing substance such as used coffee grounds or cat litter if take-back is not available
Place the mixture in a sealed container or bag before putting it in household trash if allowed locally
Do not flush medicine unless the label or local guidance specifically says to do so
Keep medicine out of reach of children and pets until it is disposed of
