Back up any files you want to keep
Sign out of all accounts and deactivate software licenses
Remove the hard drive or SSD if you want to keep or destroy your data
Factory reset the laptop if it will be reused or donated
Wipe the drive securely using data-erasure software
Remove and recycle the battery separately if required
Take the laptop to an e-waste recycling center
Use a manufacturer take-back or trade-in program
Donate it only if it still works and meets the recipient’s needs
Sell it if it is functional and safe to use
Drop it off at a local electronics recycling event
Check local rules for battery and electronic disposal
Do not throw it in regular household trash
