Gather documents that support your claim

Identify the specific items you want to dispute

File a dispute with the credit bureau reporting the error

Submit your dispute online, by mail, or by phone if allowed

Include your full name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth

Clearly state each inaccurate item and why it is wrong

Attach copies of supporting documents

Keep copies of everything you send

Send disputes to each bureau separately if the error appears on multiple reports

Dispute the item directly with the creditor or furnisher as well

Track deadlines and follow up on the investigation
