Examine your conscience and recall your sins since your last confession
Be sincerely sorry for your sins
Go to a priest in a church or confessional
Begin with the Sign of the Cross
Say how long it has been since your last confession
Confess your sins clearly and honestly
Mention any serious sins by kind and number if possible
Do not hide any mortal sin
Listen to the priest’s advice and penance
Pray the Act of Contrition when asked, or express sorrow in your own words
Receive absolution from the priest
Make the Sign of the Cross when absolution is given
Complete the penance as soon as possible
Thank God for His mercy and try to avoid sin in the future
