Start with clean, detangled hair
Part the hair into the section you want to braid
Divide that section into three small strands at the hairline
Cross one outer strand over the middle strand
Cross the other outer strand over the new middle strand
Add a small amount of hair from the scalp to the outer strand before crossing it over
Repeat alternating sides while adding hair each time
Keep the braid close to the scalp
Maintain even tension as you braid
Continue until all hair in the section is added in
Finish the remaining length with a regular three-strand braid
Secure the end with a hair tie or elastic
Repeat on the remaining sections of hair
Apply edge control or styling product if desired
Protect the braids at night with a satin scarf or bonnet
