Call emergency services immediately if the infant is unresponsive or not breathing normally
Place the infant on a firm, flat surface
Check for responsiveness by tapping the foot and calling the infant’s name
Check for breathing for no more than 10 seconds
If not breathing or only gasping, begin CPR
Place two fingers in the center of the chest just below the nipple line
Give 30 chest compressions at a depth of about 1.5 inches, or one-third the chest depth
Compress at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute
Allow the chest to fully recoil after each compression
After 30 compressions, open the airway by gently tilting the head back and lifting the chin
Give 2 gentle breaths, each lasting about 1 second, just enough to make the chest rise
Continue cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths
If you are trained and another rescuer is present, use 15 compressions and 2 breaths
If an AED is available, use pediatric pads if possible and follow the device prompts
Continue CPR until the infant starts breathing normally, emergency help arrives, or you are too exhausted to continue
