Wash your hands and the area with soap and water
Soak the area in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the skin
Dry the area gently
Use tape to try to lift out a shallow splinter
Apply a baking soda paste to the area and cover it with a bandage for a few hours, then rinse
Use a sterilized needle to gently lift the end of the splinter if it is visible
Press gently around the splinter to help it come out if it is near the surface
Rinse the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, under a nail, in the eye, or causing redness, swelling, pus, or severe pain
