Confirm labor signs and call a skilled birth attendant or go to a health facility
Wash hands and prepare a clean delivery area
Keep the mother calm, hydrated, and in a comfortable position
Monitor contractions, bleeding, and the baby’s progress
Encourage the mother to push only when fully dilated and instructed
Support the perineum as the baby’s head crowns
Allow the baby to come out slowly with each contraction
Check for and gently release any cord around the baby’s neck if trained to do so
Guide the baby’s shoulders and body out without pulling hard
Place the baby on the mother’s chest immediately after birth
Dry the baby and keep the baby warm
Clear the baby’s airway only if needed
Clamp and cut the umbilical cord with sterile equipment when appropriate
Deliver the placenta naturally and check that it comes out completely
Massage the uterus to help it contract and reduce bleeding
Monitor the mother for heavy bleeding, severe pain, or shock
Seek emergency help immediately if there is excessive bleeding, prolonged labor, fetal distress, or the baby is not breathing
