How to Do Paddle Boarding?

Choose a paddle board suited to your size and skill level

Use a paddle that is the right height for you

Wear a properly fitted life jacket

Attach a leash to your ankle or calf

Check weather, water conditions, and local rules

Place the board in shallow, calm water

Start by kneeling in the center of the board

Hold the paddle with one hand on the top grip and the other on the shaft

Stand up one foot at a time while keeping your knees bent

Keep your feet parallel and about shoulder-width apart

Look forward, not down at your feet

Paddle on one side to move straight, then switch sides as needed

Use short, smooth strokes close to the board

Brace with the paddle if you feel unsteady

Turn by paddling on one side or using a sweep stroke

Step back slightly on the board to slow down or stop

Fall away from the board if you lose balance

Reboard from the side or rear when ready

Practice in calm water before trying waves or currents

Carry the board by the handle when on land

Rinse your board and gear after use
