Plot the data points on a scatter graph
Look for the overall trend in the points
Draw a straight line that follows the trend and passes through the middle of the points
Make sure the line has roughly the same number of points above and below it
Do not force the line through every point
Extend the line across the graph if needed
Check that the line represents the data as closely as possible
