Adjust seat so you can fully press the clutch and reach the steering wheel comfortably
Ensure the gear lever is in neutral
Set the parking brake
Start the engine with the clutch fully depressed and the gear lever in neutral
Keep your foot on the clutch
Move the gear lever to 1st gear
Release the parking brake
Slowly release the clutch until you feel the car start to move (engine speed drops slightly)
Add gentle throttle while continuing to release the clutch smoothly
Fully release the clutch once the car is moving normally
To shift up: lift off the throttle slightly, press the clutch fully, move to the next gear, then release the clutch smoothly while applying throttle
To shift down: lift off the throttle, press the clutch fully, move to the lower gear, then release the clutch smoothly while applying gentle throttle
For normal stops: lift off the throttle, press the clutch fully, brake to slow down
When nearing a stop: shift to neutral as needed and fully depress the clutch
Stop the car: come to a complete stop with the clutch fully depressed, then put the gear lever in neutral
Use the parking brake when stopped and on a slope
For starting on a hill: brake with your foot, engage 1st gear, release clutch to the bite point while holding the brakes, then move off by releasing the brake and smoothly increasing throttle while fully releasing the clutch
Avoid riding the clutch: keep clutch use brief and smooth during engagement and shifting
If the engine revs sharply without acceleration, press the clutch again and re-engage smoothly
If the car jerks or stalls, press the clutch, return to neutral, and try again with smoother clutch release and throttle coordination
When driving in reverse: stop fully, press the clutch, select reverse, then release clutch smoothly while using light throttle
